Evaluation of suitable onium tetrafluoroborates for cationic polymerization of epoxides

Epoxides are frequently used in coatings due to their great adhesion most materials, high resistance towards chemicals and well-defined material properties. Onium salts such as iodonium sulfonium one of the widespread classes initiators light-induced cationic polymerization epoxides. We successfully synthesized onium based on group 14 16 elements periodic table. They were then characterized using cyclic voltammetry UV–visible spectroscopy before determining reactivity epoxy-based resins. Using commercial bisphenol-A-based resins, thiopyrylium, bismuithonium pyrylium show good epoxy conversions above 60% simultaneous thermal analysis. Photochemically interesting new identified be oxonium, thiopyrylium selenonium salts. Additionally, bismuthonium stibonium potential sensitization with anthracene. © 2021 The Authors.
